Exciting announcement about Thane’s unofficial Armello novella

Writing

First, Thane’s story has been finished! And is being proofread by a friend.

But more excitingly, once it’s back (and I finish the cover), instead of making an eBook of it, I’ll be releasing it chapter-by-chapter here! When it’s done I’ll PDF it and archive it on my site proper.

Since it’s a novella, this means there’ll be plenty of time for folks to comment as they read along. Should be exciting!

In other news…*squints at 41 printed pages of Armello fanfic* When did this get so long?! Probably time to re-read it soon.

I wrote some today on Horror and Frenchies and suddenly my motivation’s run out. Literally nothing sounds good to do (except maybe play DROPSY, but I don’t want to continue on without my friend over so.)

Well, playing DEAD SECRET sounds good but the last time I played it it got my heart going and I’m already kinda hyped by the SCVK cover preview. X33 I don’t know if my heart could take it.

TACOS TONIGHT!!

Art WIP: Heroes of Houndsmouth

Art

Worked on this during General Conference (#ldsconf) today. Time to break for the weekend so I can see the errors (Pro Tip: They’re probably all on that wonky shield uuugh.)

First: the basics.

Blocking her dress and a fiery night sky…

Love how Krita lets me paint in color AND see my values in real time!

Ditched the dress and did some neon green fire from the “Aflame” card.

Still dunno where to put the text! HA HA!

THE FATES ARE OFTEN CRUEL!

My husband is responsible for at least 45% of this. I threw out the idea, and he just kept amping it up with comments like “A Bartlett pear with a rubber band around the middle” until I was screaming with laughter and had no choice but to draw it.

The tiki torch and acid green Crocs were his idea, too. I did owl-ize the torch, though.

Below are some variations I sketched before the final.

No, of course I did not draw them during church.

Hit 10K on my second Armello story

Writing

Worked hard (and exclusively) on my second Armello short story last week. This helped me through a tough part of the story.

Pro Tip for myself: when you hit the Great Swampy Middle, keep going!

At the beginning of last week, I dreaded writing, because I didn’t know WHAT had to happen next. But I bribed myself, saying, “Just do a little, to prime the pump.”

Ends up I didn’t have to know what had to happen next, because the longer I sat there, the more crazy interesting things began to happen! All of the sudden the section that looked murky and intimidating turned into a FUN SURPRISE FEST and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

It feels like the ending’s around the corner. But a proper title? Nowhere to be found.  🙁

Right now it’s 22 pages long, (compared to Stone Seekers‘ 16 single-spaced pages) but I also have a much larger cast…After all, what’s a wolf prince without a pack?

(Oh, and according to my chart, I’ve written 41,948 new story words this year! Whoa!)

While trying to paint stupid rocks I got frustrated and tried a different tack:

Then I decided no, I had been on the right path the entire time and went back to the diamond composition. Glad I did! Here’s the final artwork, sans Emily New’s fabulous text:

And of course, the free short story is available right here on my site!

Perils of a Messy Desk

Writing

I know I missed the Moxie update this week

and that I should post more art here

but my desk is a  mess

and I can’t access my scanner.

Piled on top of my scanner: 1 case of music CDs, 2 notebooks, the sketchbook I want to scan, some bills and other printouts, a yellow legal tablet full of novel edits and rewrites done on paper thrown out from my old job, a receipt, and a box of Christmas cards.

In other news, only ~80 more pages to edit in my novel!
